An Enchanting, Luxurious and Quirky Four Bedroom Victorian Whitby Townhouse

This enchanting, luxurious and quirky period property dates from the 1860s. It nestles in the beautiful seafaring town of Whitby, with truly magnificent views to the Abbey on the headland and the sea beyond.

The house is an eclectic and fun celebration of Whitby’s heritage, with modern-day comforts. Beautifully furnished to an exceptionally high standard, The Pirate’s Palace has been completely renovated, and painted in Farrow and Ball colours throughout, whilst still retaining original features such as the stunning stained-glass front door panels, which greet you on your arrival, and the incredible, huge ceiling rose that adorns the living room ceiling.

Occupying the upper three floors, the property has been split in two, with The Pirate’s Palace boasting the best of the views, as you will be on the first, second, and third floors. A footpath and stone steps lead you up to the entrance, and once inside you are welcomed into your private hallway, with the staircase sweeping up before you. Please note that the front steps are quite steep, and are unsuitable for people with mobility issues or younger/unsupervised children. Access to the ground floor of the property from the rear courtyard is via one step only.

Up on the first floor, you have the large, impressive and elegant living area at the front, with the most incredible panoramic views over the town. There are also a stunning, original ceiling rose and wood panelled bay windows. Here you can unwind on the comfortable sofas, watching the world go by, with the option of watching Sky TV (with Netflix), if you can drag your eyes away from the panoramic view. There is also a wood burning stove, for those cosy, atmospheric evenings in, a small library of books, and a retro record/CD player, with radio, along with a selection of vintage vinyl and CD’s. A stylish, modern kitchen/dining room at the rear is finished to a high specification, with integrated units, quality appliances, and smart TV. This is a spacious and fully equipped kitchen, sure to delight. The dining table seats up to eight people.

Upstairs on the second floor, you have two double bedrooms, boasting the best views in the house, across the rooftops to Whitby Abbey and St. Mary’s Church, and out to sea. Both bedrooms feature Emma J Shipley furnishings. There is also a shower room with rainfall shower plus a bathroom on this floor, both finished again to an exceptionally high standard, to add a little touch of luxury to your stay – it’s not often you find a shower with a crystal chandelier!

At the top of the house, on the third floor, you have an additional two attic bedrooms, with beds partly under the eaves (two doubles), making this property suitable for up to eight guests in total. Each room has been lovingly furnished with both funky retro pieces as well as tasteful modern furnishings, adding to that unique sense of character. There is also a small, shared chill-out area outside the two attic bedrooms. There are steep stairs to this floor, again unsuitable for people with mobility issues or unsupervised/younger children, with a lockable safety gate at the top.

At the front of the house there is a lawned garden as well as free, on-street parking (when available).

There is off-street parking for one car at the rear of the property. There is also free on-street parking at the rear of the property (when available).

Gas central heating and hob, electricity, bed linen, towels, tea towels and Wi-Fi are included. Initial logs for the wood burning stove are also included, along with some kindling and firelighters. There are a travel cot, highchair, two stairgates, and a fire guard on site. Please note that you will need to bring your own mattress/bedding for the travel cot. A welcome pack, information folder, and games and puzzles are provided. Hand soap and hand lotion is supplied by The Yorkshire Soap Co.

This is a ’shoes-off’ house, and spa slippers will be provided (up to approximately UK size 10). Guests are encouraged to bring their own slippers.
